Are you God's Steward?
"Expect great things from God, Attempt great things for God"
William Carey, the father of the Modern Mission, founded the English Baptist Missionary Society in 1792 and was a lifelong missionary to India. His mission set the pattern for modern missionary work.
Testimony 1: A Faithful Banker
A faithful, prudent, and honest banker, now a powerful chief in the Pacific Asia section of an international banking corporation, was raised by his mother to be obedient to God and his parents. His mother, a retired missionary nurse, always sought first the kingdom of God, stressing the importance of honesty and humility. The bank's chiefs, observing his character, entrusted him with the highest responsibility for the corporation's assets.
- 2 Timothy 2:20-21: "If a man cleanses himself from the latter, he will be an instrument for noble purposes, made holy, useful to the Master..."
- Acts 5:1-11: "...You have not lied to men, but to God."
Testimony 2: Elder Kim
Elder Kim, a fisherman and businessman, suffered from a six-month fishing failure in 2000. He prayed with his pastor, "Father God, send me enough fish. If you allow me to repay all my debt, I will build a church for your glory."
God's Responses:
- December 24, 2000: God sent him 5,000 fish, each weighing 15 kg and 1.2m long.
- January 23, 2001: God sent him a 5m mink whale.
The nets had only a 1.5m entrance, yet the fish entered one by one. The total catch brought in $600,000. He paid his tithe, repaid his bank debt, and completed his promised church.
Today's Scriptures
- Genesis 1:26: "...Let us make man in our image, in our likeness and let them rule over the fish of the sea..."
- Genesis 1:28: "Be fruitful and increase in number, fill the earth and subdue it. And dominate,..."
The purpose of God in creating us in His image is, above all, to dominate, steward and to rule over all the creatures as God made them all in the universe. We are only stewards of what God has entrusted us with.
The Earthly Life vs. the Eternal Life
- Job 1:21: "Naked I came from my mother's womb, and naked I will depart. The LORD gave and the LORD has taken away; may the name of the LORD be praised."
- 2 Corinthians 4:18: "So we fix our eyes not on, what is seen, but on what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal."
9 Months in mother's womb to live
70-80 years in this world to live
Eternity in heaven with Jesus
"God wants all men to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth." (1 Tim 2:4)
A Steward Faithful and Prudent
- Faithful: He who is honest and faithful enough to please God and God alone.
- Prudent: He who uses his talents well are trusted by God.
- Fruitful: One who yields abundant fruits according to what he was given, will glorify God and be a disciple of Christ. (John 15:8)
"For the eyes of the LORD range throughout the earth to strengthen those whose hearts are fully committed to him." (2 Chr. 16:9)
To wrap up:
The God we love and praise is holy, and He is seeking those who have clean and honest hearts. He desires to work with the faithful and prudent, to bless them greatly, and to equip them to complete the Great Commission of Jesus Christ.
Expect great things from God, attempt great things for God!
